So much has happened in the past month, it’s been a wonderful whirl. My December art show ‘Prairie Girl’ at Evanescence Gallery in High River, AB, was a huge hit with nearly 70 art fans in attendance. My fall workshops were all sold-out. And I was invited to participate in a new gallery’s small works show. Thanks to Midtowne Gallery in Calgary for welcoming my work!
For January, the changes just keep rolling in. I were surprised to find out I needed to find a new studio space for my Calgary classes. We’ll sure miss the old space, old friends & colleagues, but will be certain to keep in touch. And today, I found a great new ‘painting home away from home’ that I’ll begin teaching from on Thurs Jan 15. Introducing our new bright & spacious studio at Windsor Park Community Hall!
Located just north of Chinook Mall on 53 Ave SW, the hall has easy proximity from downtown and all quadrants of the city. What a lovely facility, and I’m very honored to have been welcomed into the new space. The huge bonus for me, is that the hall is right on a beautiful park space and is surrounded by charming community streets, beautiful mature trees and nature at it’s finest! What an inspiring space in which we’ll be able to paint and learn! Hop over to my Weekly Classes page for dates and details.
I also have more workshops coming up in Cochrane and High River! Please visit my Workshops page to get class descriptions and registration info. Thanks so much for reading, and I hope we’ll have the chance to paint together soon!
Good Monday morning to all my friends here! Am scurrying off to my studio this morning to continue getting ready for my first art show of the Christmas season. It’s this Sunday, Nov 23 at Cochrane Arts Central. I’ll be joined by artists Marla Blackwell, Jane Romanishko, Ingrid Vincent and Edith Vanderkloot. We’ll be serving refreshments and appetizers and will all be in attendance to visit with you. Cochrane Arts Central is located at 115 – 4th Ave West in Cochrane, AB. We hope you can join us for the afternoon to kick off to the holiday art season.
I’ll have a brand new selection of landscapes to share with you at this show. I’ve been working hard in my studio to expand my skills and learn more about myself as an artist. And my collection this fall reflects that. I’ve got paintings that set the scene of summer and spring, fall and winter alike, all with light and composition that I’ve taken careful thought and consideration to develop. Come help me celebrate my new beginning as a full-time artist.
Cochrane Arts Central is easy to find – Head northwest out of Calgary on Crowchild Trail to Cochrane. Once you arrive in Cochrane, turn left at the second set of lights. We’re just half a block down on the right-hand side. We’ll have signs at the intersection to help show you the way.
I’m so pleased to have my work up at the Bee’s Knees Cafe for the next month. Thanks to co-owners Jessica and Barbara, and all the team there, for the opportunity. All my work there is for sale – all you have to do is give me a call and you can purchase your favorite painting over the phone. I take cheques, MC, & Visa. Stop by for a coffee and lunch and/or dessert. Their food is unbelievably delicious. Visit them on Facebook at: www.facebook.com/pages/Bees-Knees-Cafe

All my best, Cheryl.
Galleria in Inglewood – All decked out
in Christmas tree finery. A selection of my paintings
are on the wall in the background.
All things ‘Christmas’ and myself get along really well. I don’t go crazy about it. I still wait til December to put up my trees. (Yes, plural) But I’m in love with it all, particularly the Christmas lights – that was my Dad’s and my favorite ‘thing’ together. So, since I’ve begun doing more art shows this year, I’ve developed a bit of an obsession with doing Christmas arts and craft fairs. Well, some folks might say it’s more than a bit. I likely won’t argue. I am an artist after all. Which naturally entitles me to be a little … ‘quirky’.
Anyways I thought that with December coming up fast I should give you all the rundown of my remaining Christmas shows and demos:

It’s 6:44am. The pups have been fed, watered, tinkled and it’s already 10°C out there! Beautiful! A perfect day to head to lovely Cochrane for an art show & sale. I’ll be setting up my paints and selling my work at the Cochrane Culture Days this weekend. The show runs from 10am to 4pm both Sat and Sun and is located along First Street SW in downtown Cochrane.
Lots of live music and other artists setting up their tents and sharing their talents with the community. For my painting demonstration, I’ll be putting the finishing touches on two of my brand new pieces over the weekend – a large floral and a prairie landscape. One of the most challenging things an artist can face is how to know when a painting is finished. I’ll be sharing the tips I’ve learned to sort that out that important question. After those pieces are complete I’ll also be working on a couple more of my new ‘In the Kitchen’ series paintings. If you can make it to Cochrane this weekend be sure to stop by my booth and say hello. No worries on interrupting me while I’m painting – I love to visit while I’m working.
Thanks for reading, and hope that wherever your weekend takes you, it’s a lovely one. Cheryl.
